This term in Golden Time……..

Each week at Mereside we have an afternoon (Friday from 2-3pm) where the children in each class select an activity that is put on by the teachers.

This week the activities are:-

Cooking

Art

Sewing and Knitting

Dance

Puzzles and Board games

Keyboards

Karaoke

Playdough

100% Attendance

Today we celebrated our end of term achievements. We have given out a record number of 100% attendance certificates for the autumn term. Well done to all those who have attended school every day this term. Keep it up!

Victorian Mereside

School has transformed this last week into a Victorian Christmas. Today staff and children were invited to dress up in victorain clothes to celebrate a weeks worth of work based around Charles Dickens ‘A christmas carol’. Take a look on class blogs to see the work which has been completed.

Assembly theme for this week

This week in assembly Miss Coldbeck talked about being a good friend.  She read the story about the Rainbow Fish.

We then listened to you have a friend in me – from Toy Story

Film Club

As all of KS2 are aware Film Club has started running in school.

Film Club runs on a Wednesday night, from 3pm until 4:30pm.

It is free for all children in KS2 to attend and they are able to buy a drink and a bowl of popcorn.

Tonight we watched Ponyo. A fantastic fantasy film about the friendship between a boy and a girl.

All the children who attend film club will be given a unique log in and password to access the Film Club site. Here they are able to write reviews on the films they have watched which are automatically entered into a weekly competition. Alongside this, the children are also able to browse films and add them to a ‘wish list’ which is sent through school. From this we will be able to choose a film to show the children on a ‘Viewers choice’ night.

Assembly theme this week = Kindness

In assembly this week we watched two videos to help us understand ‘KINDNESS’

The first video is the Kindness Song – that help to explain what kindness is all about

We then watched a video about the top tips to be kind.

Water Park 2011

Year 6 have spent the past three days doing a variety of outdoor adventurous activities.

Everyone is having an amazing time and have all tried something new.

Jeansforgenes day

Tomorrow (friday 7th October) is JeansforGenes day at Mereside Primary School.  All children are to wear a pair of jeans along with all the normal school uniform (shoes, shirt and jumper) whilst bringing in a £1 donation towards the charity.  Below are 2 videos to help show what the charity is all about.
